UPISketch presents an innovative approach to musical composition, maintaining the foundational principle of "pitch versus time" found in classical scoring while expanding into the continuous domain. This tool enables users to intuitively draw absolute pitch curves that can be applied to pre-existing sounds, utilizing granular synthesis techniques. It serves as an excellent platform for sketching musical concepts, exploring alternative scales, and engaging in various nuanced audio manipulations.
The software pays homage to the renowned UPIC machine, originally developed by Iannis Xenakis alongside the engineers at CEMAMu in 1977, thus highlighting a legacy of avant-garde music technology.
With the release of Version 2, several noteworthy enhancements have been introduced:
- Integration of amplitude curves
- Live synthesis capabilities allowing real-time monitoring of the score at the playhead position
- Support for groups and group duplication functionalities
- A comprehensive list of gestures with configurable unfoldable groups
- Substantial improvements to undo/redo processes
- Solo monitoring feature
- Smoother pitch glissandi for enhanced expressiveness
- Additional display options for personalized viewing
- Zooming functionality via mouse wheel (desktop version)
